The kids who can't fit in
Everywhere I look I see kids who can’t fit in.
Kids who have been left out,
Kids who get teased,
Kids who get beat up,
Kids whose parents only shout,
Kids who try hard,
Kids who stand up,
Kids who are only trying to fit in…….
Kids who would kill themselves without a doubt.

Kids who get beat up,

Kids who are only trying to fit in…….
Kids who would kill themselves without a doubt.
For this poem I choose to use free verse as it allowed me to freely say what I wanted to. I normally dislike free verse because of the lack of flow and rhythm, but since I started every line the same (except the first) it helps counteract the lack of rhythm. I also used rhetorical devices to help the poem get its point across and help its effectiveness a few examples are;
The whole poem is an example of amplification. Amplification is the repeated use of a word or phrase, which in this would be “kids who”. This really helps the general flow of the poem and makes free verse poems easier to read. I choose this because of the better flow but also I think it makes it ore effective because it stay with you more easily.
The whole poem is an example an example of an antithesis. An antithesis is when the author makes a connection between two things. In this poem I am making the connection between kids who don’t fit in and what is happening to them and attributes they poses. I choose this because it allows people to have to think about what they might have done and the repercussions their actions could cause.
My goal with this poem was to make people think about how they treat others. A lot of people don’t think before they act and don’t think about how that could affect others. Most of the time people don’t mean to exclude others it just happens sometimes. You don’t know how someone else is feeling or what has happened to him or her recently when you make a joke. I think I achieved my goal with this poem, because the last sentence can and hopefully will make you think about how you treat people and think about how it makes them feel.
